UMBRA

Hannah is locked inside an old, empty shipping container. She has no idea where she is. No water, no fresh air, no way out. She’s all alone, except for the video camera that records her every breath, her every word. An anonymous voice promises to free her… if she makes a choice. Because, somewhere, there are two more shipping containers just like hers, and inside each of them are the two people Hannah knows and loves best. But only one of these container doors will ever open again, and it’s up to Hannah to choose which that will be.

Disgraced reporter Margot Cornish has no idea what she’s watching when she is forwarded the confronting video — much less understands why anyone would call it ‘art’. Her main concern is why the viral footage features her best friend Hannah, who’s been missing, presumed dead, for four years — murdered because of a mistake she made.

And why her estranged sister, Vera, has given the shocking video’s anonymous and controversial creator, the Fear Collective, star billing at the late-night arts and music festival she runs in their hometown. Umbra is a place where night and firelight, freedom and anonymity, reign. It’s the perfect place for someone to disappear.

But when a young woman vanishes, things grow dangerously real for both sisters. Because Vera is hiding a secret of her own, and Margot’s wild claims that the Fear Collective’s artworks are covering up real crimes aren’t being believed by anyone. At least, not until a body washes up on shore, and she finds herself the prime suspect for the murder.

Can Margot unravel the blurred reality of the festival long enough to find out the truth? Or have all her wild assertions thrown her and Vera into the path of a danger they might not both survive?
